Well I am personally not a blogger...actually I still do not know what I am doing, nor do I even know how to get photos uploaded or personalized background on this page...but I do know how to write what I am feeling, which is where I will start! :)
A little about me...let's see here...
I'm Heather and I recently got married on May 26, 2012 to Jonathan. I was a 5th grade teacher before I got married and picked up and moved 3,000 miles away from everything and anything I knew to be with my husband, who is a Marine. I finished out the school year, got married a week later, and one week after that my mother and I trekked out here with a u-haul, my puppy Leilah, and a tight deadline to arrive in California. Lucky for me, my mom and I are inseparable and we had a BLAST driving cross country and documenting our stops on Facebook and our iPhones.
Well...since I moved here it has been a big change. HUGE. MASSIVE. LIFE ALTERING! First off, getting married was the biggest change because I now have to communicate 24/7 with someone else. I have to share the covers of our bed, clean up after both of us, and combine funds (the last is by far the HARDEST thing ever for me...I am used to just buying what I want when I want it...now I have to communicate (again with that word) with J when I want a new pair of shoes (& now I have to throw out/donate 1-5 pairs of shoes depending on my new shoes' price!) or I want to go shopping for clothes)!
I also am not working and it leaves me with a lot of down time...not that I am complaining at all because I love my alone time and I get a lot done around the house and have gotten to meet some awesome people out here. I am beyond fortunate that Jonathan lets me stay at home while he works all day. I love it!! But now he is getting ready to deploy and I realize I am going to be left alone and cannot bare the thought of sitting alone all day then sleeping alone all night. So I am off next week to get fingerprinted for San Diego County so I can sub while Jonathan is deployed! Sure, I am not making the money I used to (all $39,000 of it) but I am a lot happier than if I were teaching full time. I need to figure out what I want to do with my life, and for now subbing is the best way for me to figure out where I see myself down the road. Some might say, "Oh she got her MRS. Degree." To those people I would say so what if I did. I personally do not think I did, but who cares? Sure I am married and we met while in college, but I did work and was miserable. I would rather figure out what I want to do than not do my job properly. To each his own.
Anyways, since J and I got married we have had some great times and have had a chance to travel a little bit. We have yet to have our honeymoon, but hopefully after deployment we will get our big trip! We did go on a mini-honeymoon to Las Vegas (J had never been) and stayed at my favorite, The Flamingo! I recommend it because it holds on of the top 5 pools in all of Vegas! We gambled, I shopped, and we made some lasting memories! We have also gone to Colorado to visit Jonathan's grandparents, great-grandma, aunts & uncles, and cousins. His sister, his mother, and his niece and nephew also flew out there so we got to see them as well. It was a fun trip and we spent 2 nights in Estes Park going to the Scotish-Irish Festival. Tomorrow we are heading to see his other set of grandparents in Mesa, AZ and we are super excited! It is also the UGA-USC game and we are #5 and USC is #6 so it is a HOUSE DIVIDED tomorrow!!! :) GOOO DAWGS!!! In November, we are so thankful that my parents have given us the Utah Red Pines condo and we are going to spend a week there just enjoying each other's company. No family, no friends, and no cell phones (unless work calls of course), just us getting time together before he leaves on his first deployment.
The past few months have flown by and we have done so much and had so much fun!! I miss Georgia and my friends and family every single day, but for now California is home and I am making the best of it!!
